I thought today I'd share my son Matthew's story. He is the inspiration behind our business. Matthew has Type 1 Diabetes, Hashimoto's, Celiac, Autism and Anxiety. He has been fighting an uphill battle since we almost lost him at 13 months to DKA with brain damage when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

He has his Associates in Science from Brookdale and up until December of 2025 was working part time in retail since he turned 18. Unfortunately, his medical conditions and autism have made working a part or full time job just about impossible for him — even with support. It was heartbreaking to hear him say he was worthless, not a value to society, and to watch him fall into deep depression after countless failed interviews.

That's when I started thinking outside the box; what interests Matthew, what knowledge can he share with the world, and how can he make a living on his time in his own unique way? This is when Nuts for Birds LLC was born.

Matthew has been involved from the beginning and any facts and info you see has been fact-checked by him. Matt makes all of our local deliveries which help get him out of the house (off screens!), practice driving and navigation. We also participate in markets so he can practice social skills and work on customer service.
